Nur will leider irgendwie keine Leseschwung bei mir entstehen und ich habe mich beim Lesen mehr gequält als sein sollte...
This book gives an interesting but limited look into the world of private quarterback coaches for the high school athlete. I say limited because the majority of the insight comes via Trent Dilfer and the coaches he has pulled into his program 3DQB. Steve Clarkson is written about with limited insight and many of the others are omitted or briefly mentioned. Still it is an interesting book and if you are interested in QB development will provide good leads for further research.
Bruce Feldman is one of the best College football writers on the scene today. He is smart, has tremendous insight and has sources that provide him with information no one else has because they trust him. He reports his information with integrity and digs into the "other" side of the sport. My only criticism of this book relates to the very technical analysis of the quarterback position offered in the middle of the book. I could have done with less analysis of the personality type of the QB and House's physiological profile. All in all a great read for the football fan.
Bruce Feldman does it again. 'The QB' is a very interesting story about how the most scrutinized position in all of sports is playing out in the age of QB guru's, twitter and "experts' with absolutely no credentials.Feldman did a good job of balancing the technical aspects of the position with the perception of the position while diving into different reasons as to why some QB's turn out to be Hall of Famers while others turn out to be Ryan Leaf. He talks to just about everybody and leaves you with a better understanding of the position than you had before. This book probably isn't for the casual fan and isn't a tutorial in how to become the next Tom Brady. It is a very interesting read however.
Bruce Feldman's new book, The QB: The Making of Modern Quarterbacks, examines the science behind sports' most complex position and the growth of the private QB coaching business. The book focuses heavily on the work Trent Dilfer is doing as part of Nike's Elite 11 Academy to train and mentor high school QB's and on Johnny Manziel's preparation for the 2014 NFL draft. At first I was a little skeptical about the focus on those two because I was hoping for more substance on what makes the current crop of soon to be Hall of Famers great - Manning, Brady, Rodgers and Brees. But the book touches on some of that and Feldman does a good job showing how becoming a truly great QB - from high school to the pro's - is a year round job that doesn't stop once the season is over. The best QB's work throughout the offseason with private QB coaches, and it's become a lucrative business for the coaches doing it.Feldman's examination of these private coaches, showing how each became QB coaches and their unique methods, is probably the most interesting part of the book. With Manziel's recent struggles towards the end of the 2014 NFL season, the fly-on-the-wall access that Feldman was granted by him and his QB coach makes this book even more relevant. It's easy to see why Manziel fell apart as soon as he reached the NFL.The QB is a great read for anyone wanting to learn more about the nuances of the position and for parents of young QBs. The money, time and preparation spent on developing young boys into QBs these days is eye-opening.
This book is awesome! It's not about QB techniques and how to play the position. It's not the recipe to play but about the important extra ingredients one can add (if one has the opportunity OR is willing to and able to afford) to help make the final product be the best qb and hopefully make it to the nfl. It does mention a few techniques and interesting drills/philosophies but the book is solely about the evolution of the private/personal QB trainers and training, the booming business it has become, and it's growing popularity. How much younger their clients are these days and the expense it can be. Great insight on the journey some kids take to the nfl and how they succeed or even bust. Many interesting subjects including scientific research and studies that are hard to argue against. I can't praise this book enough, just exceptional work! Really opened up a new door on how I perceive these QBs. If you are a football lover and/or a QB fan this book is a MUST READ!
